PSHE resources for Anti-Bullying Week and Alcohol Awareness Week

It’s both Anti-Bullying Week and Alcohol Awareness Week and we wanted to draw your attention to some of the quality assured classroom resources we highlight on our website to help you address these important issues.

Our ‘10 Questions About Bullying’ resource can be used to structure discussion in a planned PSHE lesson and the resource comes with both teacher notes and slides to use in class.

The ‘Expect Respect’ education toolkit from Women’s Aid  has teaching material focusing on abuse in relationships (for key stages 1-5) and the CEOP 'Exploited' resource for secondary schools on abuse looks at exploitative friendships, peer influence and abusive relationships.  

Other useful resources include the 'Stop Stigma' resource (key stages 3 & 4) by Cornwall Healthy Schools on combatting prejudice toward people with mental health issues, teaching resources from EACH (Educational Action Challenging Homophobia) and the 'DEAL' resources from the Samaritans on raising awareness of emotional health and helping young people realise when they need to seek help (suitable for key stages 2 and 3).

When it comes to alcohol education in addition to resources we’ve recently highlighted we would like to draw your attention to the evidence based ‘Talk About Alcohol’ workbook for secondary teachers from the Alcohol Education Trust (AET). The focus of the resource pack is on enabling pupils to make informed choices about alcohol use and includes teacher notes, worksheets, discussion-based work and links to interactive games, quizzes and activities.

We have also quality assured two drug and alcohol related resources from CWP resources. Teaching Drug and Alcohol Education with Confidence in Secondary Schools provides a set of lessons for each year group at key stages 3 and 4 to support the teaching of a variety of issues within drug and alcohol education and Teaching Drug and Alcohol Education with Confidence in Primary Schools is aimed at years 1-6.
