PSHE Association and partners to draft new sex and relationships education advice for schools

We are pleased to announce to our members that the PSHE Association is working with Brook and the Sex Education Forum on joint advice aimed at helping schools to bring their sex and relationships education (SRE) into the 21st Century. Our new advice will supplement the Government's existing statutory guidance on the subject.

The decision to produce this advice was taken by the three charities because teachers told us that they urgently needed up to date guidance on how to support pupils with modern issues such as staying safe online. Our advice will address the most pressing SRE questions asked of us by teachers; many leading organisations are contributing and we expect to publish the advice shortly.

Association Chief Executive Joe Hayman said:

“All pupils deserve high-quality sex and relationships education as part of a comprehensive PSHE curriculum. In seeking to achieve that objective, we have to work within the statutory parameters set by Government, which is why I’m delighted that we are working with SEF and Brook to provide advice to supplement the existing guidance.

Just as when we launched our Programme of Study for PSHE education and guidance for schools on drafting their SRE policies, we are using our own expertise to provide resources that match our members' needs. We really hope you, our members, will find the supplementary advice useful.”
