Our latest training on preventing and challenging extremism through PSHE education
With funding provided by the Home Office as part of its ‘Building a Stronger Britain Together’ programme and awarded by the London Community Foundation programme, we’re delighted to offer a series of free CPD training days for both primary and secondary PSHE leads — helping you to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to plan and teach this challenging aspect of PSHE education.
These sessions will explore what makes young people vulnerable to all forms of extremism and radicalisation, and the protective and preventative factors PSHE education develops. Delegates will come away with practical solutions and useful materials to review, plan and implement their PSHE education curriculum in a way that effectively safeguards pupils.
Delegates will gain:
- an awareness of the knowledge, skills and attributes PSHE education develops to support resilience to extremist ideologies of all kinds
- an increased understanding of extremism, the process of radicalisation and of PSHE education’s role in safeguarding pupils, in line with schools’ statutory duties
- increased confidence in effectively mapping and planning curriculum provision across key stages
- knowledge of resources to support safe and effective lesson delivery
- an awareness of how to manage challenges presented by this sensitive curriculum area
- techniques for evidencing your school’s work on preventing extremism and radicalisation
The primary phase training will take place in London (10th October and 6th December) and Leeds (12th December). Workshops for secondary PSHE leads will also be held in London (18th July and 13th September) and Leeds (12th December).
At this stage we are asking people to register their interest and we will confirm over the coming weeks if we can offer a place. These sessions are extremely popular, so unfortunately we are unable to offer places to everyone who registers interest.
