Government postpones its response to the Education Committee’s PSHE report
The Government has postponed its response to the Commons Education Committee’s report on PSHE education which was due by today. The landmark report into PSHE and SRE in schools included a series of recommendation including that the subject be made statutory.
While Education Secretary Nicky Morgan had previously set the deadline for June 26, a Government response to a Parliamentary Question yesterday stated that Ministers are still “carefully considering the Committee’s recommendations and how best to address this” suggesting that this deadline is now unlikely to be met.
While we are disappointed that the Government has not responded this week, we hope that Ministers will take this time to develop a response which the huge support behind statutory status from leading bodies, parents, business leaders, and young people.
