The consultation on draft statutory health education, RSE and relationships education guidance closes on Wednesday (7th). Your experience in the area will be invaluable so we would encourage you to submit a response. Please read our recent blog post summarising what we like about the guidance and what we think needs improvement but do use your own words when responding.

There is a lot to welcome — including the breadth of the guidance and that pupils will be guaranteed the majority of PSHE education from 2020, so we will acknowledge this in our own response.

There are also areas of concern that we’ll raise. One key area is the confusion this guidance might cause for schools already delivering PSHE education covering health and relationships as well as economic wellbeing. The bottom line is that schools should continue to offer a complete PSHE programme from 2020 with all three strands intact — these statutory changes in fact strengthen the argument for doing so.
